Think of how much fun your child will have discovering new authors or rereading works by old favorites. Here's an idea: Why don't you and your child read together each day for 10-15 minutes? If you're not accustomed to reading for pleasure, this would be an excellent time to cultivate the habit.

UPDATE (June 29, 2009): School starts for all students on September 9. School staff report to school on September 8.
The New York State English Language Arts test for grades 3-5 will be administered in May 2010. No final dates have been released yet.
All pre-registered families with a child entering Kindergartenin in Fall 2009 need to provide their family contact information to the PTA so that class lists can be created as soon as possible and you can start receiving Connections, the school's weekly newsletter. (The school administration is prohibited from giving family info to the PTA.) The sooner we have your information the sooner we will be able to create the class lists and you will be able to make playdates and plan birthday parties! Both new and returning PS6 families need to provide their information.

 2009-2010 FAMILY GIFTS - It's not what you give, but that you give. We all know these are tough economic times and not everyone is able to contribute at the levels they have in the past. The PTA asks that each family contribute what it can so that the PTA is able to continue to support the programs and resources that the regular school budget does not cover, including math and reading intervention specialists, arts programs for all grades, gym for Kindergarteners, Ffith Grade moving on ceremony, classroom rugs, air conditioning, photocopiers, books, supplies and much, much more. The requested amount is $750 per child ($1,000 would especially help this year), but no amount is too small. Donations are anonymous. Click here to make a donation on-line now or send a donation form and check made out to "PS 6 PTA" to the PTA c/o Joseph Andreano, Financial Secretary (donations are kept strictly confidential). Donations are tax deductible.
